Bonmarché to support Fire & Building Safety Accord in Bangladesh
Bonmarché can confirm that it has committed to supporting the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh initiated by IndustriALL and UNI Global Unions.
In line with many other retailers, we believe that a set of united and collaborative actions facilitated through this initiative is the most effective way to build sustainable change in Bangladesh. We believe that, in addition to the work we are doing with our local agents in Bangladesh and through our contact with the ETI in support of the Bangladesh Government’s National Action Plan, this accord will be important in driving a transformation of the RMG sector.’

A spokesperson from Bonmarché said:
“The tragic events in Bangladesh have brought the processes used to manage our supply chain into sharp focus. This is a human tragedy and we are shocked by what has happened. While we have always implemented processes in line with or exceeding industry requirements and standards, there are lessons to be learned from this event right across the retail sector.
It is right and appropriate to expect our suppliers to meet the terms of the legal contracts they sign and to fulfil their obligations in a proper manner. However, our priority must be to ensure our customers can have absolute confidence that the clothes we sell are produced without risk to those making them. We are committed to reviewing how we can learn from this with other retailers, but our focus now is rightly on information gathering and supporting where possible our supplier and the families of those involved in this tragedy.”
