With just weeks to go until the event of the year, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to celebrate the Royal Wedding! With the date of the 19th May, it’s the perfect chance to make the most of the start of summer and host anything from an intimate BBQ to a bustling street party! Mark Heyes is on hand to offer a few ideas of how you could get involved in the celebrations, but most importantly, what you should be wearing for the big day…

Host a Street Party

Holding a street party is a great way to get together with your neighbours to celebrate this special day. We’re even being encouraged to bring together our communities by the official government who are providing online guidance to help bust popular myths around street parties. Did you know for example that you don’t need a music licence if you want to play music at your street party? These little tips make it much easier to host without worries! So what better reason than to bring family, friends and new people together and celebrate a day that makes us all feel proud to be British!

Enjoy a BBQ

If a street party requires a bit too much organisation than you have time for, why not host something a little lower key. Set up a viewing party and invite just close friends and family. If the weather is nice, plan for a BBQ, but if you’re less optimistic make sure there’s plenty of oven space for all the sausages you’ve bought! Decorations and props are all part of the fun, so make sure you’re prepared with Harry & Meghan face masks, silly photo props and plenty of British bunting!

Get Crafty!

This occasion is a perfect time to get your creative juices flowing! If you’re an arts & crafts lover there are so many opportunities to create a decorative feature for your party. Why not dust off the sewing machine and make some union jack bunting, follow this helpful guide. Or if you’ve got young family members, keep the kids entertained with cutting and sticking activities including plenty of royal crowns, Queen’s guards and don’t forget the corgis! Have fun with it and enjoy yourselves – this season is all about coming together and enjoying each other’s company!

Bake!

Baking is part of our British identity so there’s no better time to show off your kitchen skills! Whether you’re making treats to enjoy whilst watching, or you’re bringing them into the office in the lead up to the big day, we don’t need an excuse to eat cake! When it comes to the bake there’s so many options! Opt for English classics such as Scones with jam & clotted cream or a Victoria Sponge if you’re hosting a traditional tea party. Or choose something more fun and colourful such as Iced Union Jack cupcakes if you’re entertaining younger guests.

So how will you be celebrating the big day? Whatever your plans, we’d love to see your royal wedding party pictures! Tag us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and join in the royal excitement!
