We all know the delight that Wimbledon brings… the tournament is filled with the excitement of amazing sport, celebrity sightings and glamorous outfit spotting. Along with watching the tennis, there are a few essential ingredients that are required to help create a traditionally British Wimbledon experience. So whether you’ve got yourself a ticket, you’re watching from home, or you just need a little summer picnic inspiration, here are a few recipes to get you into the Wimbledon spirit

CLASSIC PIMMS

Pimms is the only drink you need during Wimbledon. Fruity, fresh and the perfect complement to a hot summer’s day! Plus it’s easy as can be to create…

Simply pile all of the ingredients in a tall glass, mix and sip. However, it’s probably best to make a jugful… you never know who might turn up at the sound of the ice tray leaving your freezer!

Ingredients

  • Pouring jug & highball glasses to serve
  • 50ml PIMM’S No.1
  • 150ml of Lemonade
  • Mint, orange, strawberries
  • Cucumber to garnish and ice

Another quintessential Wimbledon classic is the traditional dish of strawberries and cream. Often enjoyed by event guests, the dish is so popular today that during the two-week Wimbledon tennis tournament, 28,000kg and 7,000 litres of cream are consumed! The study also found the perfect strawberry-to-cream ratio is 70:30 - achieved with half a tablespoon (7.5g) of cream per strawberry. And just in case you’re unsure how to create this phenomenal dessert, we’ve listed the ingredients below for you…

Ingredients

  • Strawberries
  • Cream
Quantities: Eat to your hearts content!

ETON MESS

Eton mess is so simple, made with broken meringues, strawberries and cream – the best bits of summer combined into one easy dessert!

Ingredients

  • 6 ready-made meringues
  • 570ml double cream
  • 450g strawberries
  • 75 ml port, kirsch or Cointreau (optional)

Method

  1. 1. Cut the strawberries in half or into thick slices if they’re big. Place in a bowl with the port, kirsch or Cointreau if using, cover and chill for 2-3 hrs.
  2. 2. Whip the cream until it forms soft peaks, then fold in the berries and juices.
  3. 3. Crush the meringues and fold into the strawberry and cream mixture.
  4. 4. Spoon the Eton mess into individual dishes. If you like, you can decorate with extra strawberries.
