How to: Host the perfect Festive Party

18 December 2019

Christmas is just around the corner which means that there’ll be parties for hosting! We know that amongst buying the perfect gifts and making sure your tree looks fabulous for the big day, festive party planning can be something to panic about!

Follow our 7 simple steps below and you will be able to channel your festive goddess (think, Nigella) and pull off the best party of the season!

1. Set the Scene

First impressions count; the first thing your guests will see is your front door so style it with a wreath. Once your tree is decked to the max the easiest way to keep your décor fabulous is to keep the theme running throughout the house. If copper and white is your theme, use copper and white accents throughout your home!

2. Make sure you have enough food for everyone

Quantity and variety are key! If you’re hosting a Christmas party, we recommend using some festive trimmings (pigs in blankets are a must have for us); but if your party is on NYE, friends and family have usually had their fill of Christmas dinner, so we would advise adding some sausage rolls and canapes to your table!

3. Have a ‘Show Stopper’

You’re not aiming for star baker here, so there’s no need for a 3-tiered, fully iced cake. A cheeseboard can be extremely successful as a party show-stopper. Pop to your local supermarket, select some delicious cheeses*, moreish chutneys and a variety of crackers. Then lay them out in a stylish, eye-catching way!

*Our Top Pick - Mature cheddar with roasted onion, fig chutney and a rosemary cracker.

4. Drinks: don’t forget the ice!

Prosecco or beer. Fizzy pop or juice; an excellent hostess has plenty for everyone. This could be the perfect time to show off your slow cooker mulled wine or signature cocktail recipe. If you have children at your party, we love the idea of creating a ‘KIDS ONLY’ non-alcoholic cocktail to get them in the party spirit!

5. Music! Makes the people, come together.

This is where the party really begins, music is so important! Although it’s your party, you need to think of your guests. Have a playlist of Christmas classics (for a Christmas party), some of your top picks and some crowd pleasers and you’ll be set to dance the night away!

6. Be present

A tip-top hostess is always around, socialising with all her guests. As much as they will love the food and festivities – the one thing everyone really came for is your company! Make sure you make the rounds with everybody, they’ll remember the night even more if you do!

7. Finish the night off with a BANG

We’re talking FIREWORKS. They’re a fabulous way to end your party. Load everybody up with mulled wine (or hot chocolate for the little ones), pass out some blankets and set off your own magical light show; just don’t forget the sparklers – everyone LOVES them.
